“I just have this normal job to pay for what I actually love doing.”

It’s a sentence we kept hearing. Again and again.
From people across the creative spectrum — designers, crafters, builders, artists, inventors.
People who are deeply skilled, wildly creative… and working full-time in something else to make their real passion possible.

Because turning what you love into what you live off?
That’s a whole other game.

It’s not that they don’t have talent.
It’s that to make a living, you don’t just need to create great things.
You also have to market them. Sell them. Ship them. Support them. Register a company. Build a website. Post on social. Do customer service. Set prices. Write invoices. File taxes. Again. And again. And again.

It’s exhausting.
And honestly? Many of the best creators out there never even try.

So we asked ourselves:

What if we made it easier for creators to earn from what they love, without forcing them to become entrepreneurs?

We started by talking to them. Lots of them.
We found an incredible community of creators making everything from custom wedding dresses to cosplay wings, personalized gifts, smart shelves, modular toys, electronics, art pieces, knitted masterpieces, upcycled furniture — you name it.

But something kept popping up. A pain point.

Platforms like Etsy? Too crowded. Too expensive. Too noisy.
It’s not a level playing field anymore — it’s an ad auction.
Only the best marketers get seen. Not the best makers.

So no, we weren’t going to build a “new Etsy.” That’s been done. Many times.

But then… we saw something interesting.

"I get a lot of commission requests in my DMs..."

Wait — what?

Yes. Creators were getting direct requests from people who wanted a product made just for them.
Things like:

“Can you knit this in a different color?”
“Can you 3D print a missing part for my kitchen blender?”
“Can you make a custom piece for my cosplay?”
“Can you create a gift for my son who loves space?”
“Can you build this shelf but make it baby-safe and modular?”

People had ideas.
Makers had skills.
But the whole thing happened in private messages — unstructured, one-by-one, inefficient, unscalable.

What if we could change that?

But we realized this wasn’t just about visibility. It was about validation.

Why do 85% of products fail?
Because we make them before we know if anyone wants them.
We guess. We gamble. We overproduce. We overstock. And then we throw away.

Meanwhile, the planet is drowning in things nobody needed in the first place.

What if we flipped the script?

What if ideas could be validated first — by people, by pre-orders, by demand?

What if nothing got made until it was wanted?

What if makers could license their blueprints to local producers, and earn royalties instead of packing boxes?

What if we created a system that made more sense for everyone?

And then... the trade war hit.

Shipping delays. Rising tariffs. Political chaos.
Global supply chains are no longer "global" — they’re fragile, expensive, unpredictable.

And let’s be honest:
Not everything needs to be made on the other side of the world and shipped across three oceans.

Some things should be made locally.

And if we can validate demand first, share designs securely, and connect with local production — we can make that happen.

So that’s what we’re building.

SomebodyMakeIt is a decentralized system for demand-validated, IP-secure, local production of physical products.
